Abstract artist with an extraordinary vision
Ruth Lewin did not see the world through a singular lens or filter. Her works covered an expansive breadth, depicting imagery that was realistic, geometric, figurative, urban, organic, maternal, disturbing, deeply personal, and witty.
Using a wide range of mediums and materials, Lewin created striking paintings, drawings, and block prints. As part of the Indian Space Painter movement, Lewin drew on inspiration from the natural world and from her own inner workings. Her art tells the unseen stories of peoples' lives filled with emotions kept deep and wrapped in mysterious context.
Lewin’s artwork spans the 1940’s thru the 1970’s, and has been mostly out of public view until now. The Estate of Ruth Lewin is pleased to share these treasures with you.
